Learn from the artists of the past to add inspiration and timelessness into your work!
In this workshop we begin by exploring the influential role that style plays in creating unique interpretations of themes that have been explored throughout time. You will see examples of how Lindsay and Chris have taken similar concepts and inspiration while creating dramatically different results.
Next, we will take you through how to analyze influential works of art to discern key visual elements and techniques to add to your own photography. Whether looking at the work of a painter, an artistic movement, or a movie, you’ll learn how to look at lighting, wardrobe, background and other elements you can infuse into your own imagery.
Together we take you through examples of how we plan our own shoots, build mood boards, gather a creative team, find wardrobe/props, build backgrounds, and all the other elements that go into a successful timeless shoot. This creative process will vary from production to production and with each photographer, but we discuss important processes that will help you bring your own shoots to life.
Before each of the 12 concepts we explore over the two days, we provide our inspiration and the production/mood boards involved in the creation of each set. The production value of these sets are truly unparalleled– we are working with some of the best creative artists in the world to create these striking results that truly will be unforgettable.
We begin by exploring what makes a “timeless” image and the role that style plays in image-making. We’ll explore different types of artwork (paintings, movies, and more), discuss the influences behind the artist/movement, and learn how they have influenced modern day photography. Lindsay and Chris will take you through a range of their mood boards and how they take a shoot from the inception of the idea to the final finished product. We will share the resources, tools and techniques needed to bring these images to life.
Now it’s time to take the core concepts learned during the introduction and put them into action!
Over the two days of shooting you will have the opportunity to capture 12 different, striking setups. Before each shoot we will walk you through the influences behind the concept, the wardrobe, lighting, posing, camera settings and more. You’ll learn all of the pieces that were necessary to bring the concept to life. Lindsay and Chris will guide you and answer questions as you photograph stunning scenes.
At the conclusion of the workshop, Lindsay and Chris will give a brief overview of a few of their favorite post-processing techniques. Using images from the workshop they will demonstrate color grading, painterly techniques, or other tips to put the final touches on the images you have created.
